Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he narrowly avoided a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals ran across the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident took place on the third lap when track officials were spotted on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to replace his compromised front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was seeing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I got to Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two individuals sprinting across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, frankly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a active circuit safety personnel can be allowed to just sprint across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is thoroughly reviewing the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was informed that fragments were located on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the regulatory authority

"During the third lap, safety personnel were informed and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and recover the debris once every vehicle had gone by"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send personnel were withdrawn and a safety warning flag was displayed in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what happened following that moment"
